So the baby is due in about 2 1/2 weeks, and I am getting ready. We have his things set up and a few clothes washed and put away; I'll wait until we see that he is, indeed, a boy before I wash the rest of them. :P We had our home visit with our midwife earlier this week, and now that I'm 37 weeks the homebirth is officially a go. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. I suppose it's normal to be nervous; giving birth is kind of a big deal!
During my preparations for the birth, I've realized that two of the things that help me relax the most are music I enjoy and scripture. So this weekend I put together my labor CD. Half of the music is Dave Matthews Band, which, if you know me, is not surprising. It's a lovely CD. :) And I've written a few scriptures out on cards- not just for the time I'm in labor, but in the days and weeks leading up to it. I can read them for reassurance when I feel nervous. So I thought I'd post a few here.
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." -Isaiah 41:10
"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore." -Psalm 121
"For God alone, o my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God." -Psalm 62:5-7
"In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid." -Psalm 56:4
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling." -Psalm 46:1-3
"Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." -Isaiah 40:28-31
