My Goals for 2008

I'm thinking about New Year's resolutions, of course, just like everyone else. I prefer to call them goals, but they're essentially the same thing. I have a lot of goals for this year. Here goes...

-Lose weight. I'm doing a 5-month challenge with several people on a message board, and my goal is to lose 35 pounds during the challenge. Once that goal is met, I want to lose about 35 more by the time the holiday season begins.

-Exercise 30 minutes a day 5 days a week, and drink plenty of water (my goal is 96 ounces a day- I know that sounds like a lot, but the rule of thumb I've heard is to divide your weight in half, and whatever the number is drink that many ounces of water a day.)

-I'm going to be moving toward eating less meat, especially red meat, and following a gluten-free diet for many reasons. And I need to eat out less. A lot less. I am planning to give up restaurants for Lent, as a matter of fact.

-Learn to sew. I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I'm ready to learn how to use it. There are a lot of things I want to make, and I'm really excited about it.

-Go back to school in August to start working on a master's degree in counseling. First I need to take the GRE (I'm taking it on January 19), then I need to get all my application stuff turned in (planning to have that done by February 1).

-Be in bed by 11:00 and get up at 7:00. I would (and sometimes do!) stay up half the night very happily, but then I have a hard time getting started the next day, and that isn't good for me or Elijah.

-Read through the Bible in a year. I'm going to be doing this with a few other people from church.

-Spend less time online. I think I have an internet addiction, and I need to seriously limit the time I spend online. I will probably be keeping the computer turned off most of the time to accomplish this.

-Volunteer in the community more.
